Acts of Kindness to Our Veterans

Each Auxiliary sister should be tracking/reporting Aid to Veterans.  This means meals,
transportation, cards, notes, visits, etc.

These everyday acts of kindness fall under Veterans & Family Support (V&FS).  Please
report your activities to the V&FS Chairman.  This can easily be done prior to Auxiliary
Meetings.  Chairman should be tracking activities so they can accurately answer the first
question asked on the upcoming End of Year Report due April 22nd.

DESCRIBE AUXILIARY PARTICIPATION IN EACH OF THE FOLLOWING NATIONAL
MILITARY SERVICES ACTIVITIES

•        Farewell & Welcome Home Events
•        Adopt-a-Unit
•        Family Readiness Group Activities
•        Aid to Veterans (Meals/Transportation)
•        Cards/Notes to Veterans
•        Personal Visits to Veterans in Nursing Homes

It's Never Too Late - Hold a Fundraiser Today!

Cooperation between Post and Auxiliary is essential to the success of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars & it's Ladies Auxiliary.  We work  jointly on a variety of Programs and this
sense of serving our veterans, active military, and their families is the core concept of both
organizations.  That means......... it is our purpose for being!

Considering this, please understand that the Veterans & Family Support Program is the
program that exemplifies why we are here.  The financial bulk of this program comes from
our donations to the National Military Services (NMS).  Post and Auxiliary members need
to work jointly for the success of the NMS which fulfills all that we are.  Have you jointly
held a fundraiser?  I would appreciate e-mails and addendums to End of Year (EOY) Reports
that describe in detail joint activities.

These success stories will be shared with the National Director.  I want Arizona to shine for
our veterans, and you are the stars that make this happen.  Our Arizona team is
accomplishing the goals that serve all in this Time for Military Heroes.

Please remember that questions may arise when completing EOY Reports, and I am here to
help!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now's the time to shout your accomplishments!

Here are some pointers for End of Year Reports (EOY):
1.  The top of the report form MUST say 2009-2010 and have Sheila Shutts as Department
Chairman for Veterans & Family Support.

2.  Attachments are encouraged!  These can be in the form of fliers, community newspaper
articles, Post/Aux Newsletters, photos, etc.  These addendums are substantiating
information and make your report more credible.  Pictures do speak louder than words.

3.  Write or type clearly.  Get someone to help if necessary.

4.  Auxiliaries that jointly work on End of Year reports tend to be more successful.  More
input makes for better reports.

5.  Review Community Service monthly reports to jog your memory.

6.  The Treasurer is a big help.  Her checkbook register shows the amounts of all donations.

7.  Please remember if an item is reportable as Community Service, it will also be
reportable on the Presidents EOY, and on a Program EOY as well.

Since I wish everyone to be successful and help the Department achieve their goals.....I am
at your service.  If I can be of any help, please e-mail me at shutts@citlink.net or call 928-
754-5079.  This has been a hugely successful year and I look forward to seeing you all at the
Mesa Department Convention.

The year of It’s TIME for America’s Military Heroes while Standing by Our Veterans has
been outstanding, rewarding, and a huge success.  There is still one task remaining!

POPPY HATS

EVERY sister attending Department Convention is encouraged to join the Parade of Poppy
Hats!  Be creative, original, and cute! And, please remember that Relief Fund Donations for
poppies used are always appreciated.

Poppy Campaigns for Memorial Day can kick off your 2010-2011 Auxiliary year.  Proceeds
are to be deposited into the Restricted Relief Fund.  This will add a jump start to the
Veterans' & Family Support Program for the upcoming year.

I thank President Mercy for her sisterhood and each of you for all the work we have
accomplished while Standing by Our Veterans.
