LADIES AUXILIARY TO VFW POST 1433
Glendale, Arizona
September 1, 2007
Dear Sister:
The VFW appreciates your Auxiliary membership and wants you to be aware of all the
wonderful programs your dues help support:
Cancer Aid & Research. Our Auxiliaries contribute thousands
of dollars each year to the top cancer research hospitals and universities.
VFW National Home in Michigan. Our Auxiliaries provide homes for wives and
children going through tough times. We contribute toward the maintenance of the
Arizona Cottage as well as providing funds for the children’s Health and Happiness Fund.
The Buddy Poppy program endows our Relief Fund to help Auxiliary families in time
of crisis and need.
Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and Patriotic Art programs make middle and high
school students aware of our veterans’ sacrifices as well as promoting youthful patriotism.
Unmet Needs and Military Assistance Program help families whose breadwinners
are on active duty and may need financial help.
Operation Uplink provides phone cards to servicemen on active duty.
None of these programs can continue without your moral and financial support. So if you
haven’t yet paid your 2008 dues, remember the above programs and send your check for
$17 today.
Sincerely,
Carolyn White, Treasurer

Dear Sister Auxiliary Member:
Your Auxiliary needs your help. As you know we need your dues to continue the work
we do for our veterans and our communities. Just to let you know about some of the
ongoing programs of your Auxiliary:
1. On the second Saturday of every month the Auxiliary hosts a “picnic” for the patients
in the Blind Rehab Unit at the VA Hospital. The patients appreciate the food but mostly
the camaraderie. We’re always looking for new volunteers for this fun time! It only
takes a few hours on that Saturday.
2. Once a month we host a project with a kindergarten class at Homer Davis Elementary
School. They eagerly wait for us so they can proudly show how they continue to learn
the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. The kids love having their VFW
friends come to class! This project only takes a couple of hours one Friday a month.
3. Some of our sisters continue the fight against breast cancer by participating in the
Susan Komen Breast Cancer Walk and Strides Against Cancer. And the Auxiliary
continues to have fundraisers for cancer research.
4. Our Veterans and Family Support Chairman is busy working with other Posts and
Auxiliaries in the District on upcoming events for our soldiers and military families. We
just volunteered at an Easter Party and had over 400 adults and children. It was a great
day for these special families. The committee is also hosting a special Mother’s Day
brunch in May and has been invited to participate with the Tucson Pops Orchestra on
their Mother’s Day concert at Reid Park. We’re also working on a Father’s Day project
and a 4th of July event. Our Auxiliary provides volunteer baby-sitters on the 2nd
Thursday of each month while one of our Family Readiness Groups meets. It is held at
Centennial Elementary School and it starts at 6:30 PM. This is a large project, requires
lots of help, and we’re always looking for volunteers. So if you love to snuggle babies,
follow around toddlers or work with older children on a project, this is the volunteer
time for you.
5. The VFW National Home for Children benefited from a dinner the Auxiliary hosted in
February 2007. It was an Alaskan theme serving fresh Alaskan salmon that was donated
by members. There were raffles, music, and a good time. We’re already planning this
year’s fundraiser.
Dues for 2008 are now payable. Yes, we’re barely into 2007 but we want to take a nice
membership transmittal to the state convention in June to kick off our 2007-2008 year.
Please send your dues in today!
