
LAKE HAVASU City – The Veterans of Foreign Wars & Ladies Auxiliary for District 8 (which encompasses 11 Posts and
10 Auxiliaries from Meadview to Parker Dam) held their Annual Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Banquet
Saturday evening in Lake Havasu City.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of students participate in the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition (grades
9-12) and the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest (grades 6-7-8), garnering more than $3.4 million in scholarships and
incentives. This year’s Voice of Democracy essay theme was “My Role in Honoring America’s Veterans” and the
Patriots Pen theme was “Why I Am An American Patriot.”
These District 8 winners will now move on to State competition with Awards being announced January 19th in Yuma.
The Scholarship winner from each state will advance to National.
